Hamsa

A while back I created a necklace for a customer; a sterling silver little hand of fatima also called Hamsa casted in resin. I didn't create the little hand ... I wish I could :D ... it was bought from aonother shop. The hamsa (meaning lit. "five") is a palm-shaped amulet popular throughout North Africa mainly in Tunisia, and commonly used in jewellery and wall hangings. Depicting the open right hand, an image recognized and used as a sign of protection in many societies throughout history, the hamsa provides superstitious defense against the evil eye. Here are some pictures of the custom creation:

  1. Dit is héél mooi gemaakt! Met die zwarte ondergrond komt dit héél mooi uit ook. Knap juweeltje weer van je hand!

  2. So beautiful! Looks so elegant, and I love the motif - actually, I love it so much that I've been trying to make a Hamsa out of seed beads. Didn't manage though ;)
